How Long Does It Take To Move Office?

There is a very simple and very complex answer when it comes to office moving times.

Speaking strictly literally, the time it takes for the office removals service to load everything into vans, move to the new office and unload everything again is usually less than a day as long as the right company is used.

However, whilst the moving company is very efficient at its part of the job, it is only part of the process. There is so much that goes into an office move before any van is loaded and a lot that needs to be done before booking the moving date.

Generally, at a bare minimum, assuming a move into a serviced office, it will take between a week and two months depending on the size of the team, at a minimum.

This will increase to between one and six months for a managed office, due to the increased amount of work required in arranging the workspace compared to a serviced office.

Finally, for a leased office, where every part of the job is up to the company itself, it can take between three months to a full year, depending on team size and the complexity of your requirements.

These are, of course, minimum reasonable dates. Office moves can be elastic in the sense that they can take as much or as little time as the moving date allows, but not leaving enough time can lead to that elastic snapping, mistakes being made and money being lost in the long term.

Here are some factors that can affect your moving date.

Having A Plan

The planning stage is absolutely crucial to success, and whilst it can feel like a move is trapped in inertia during the lengthy planning stage, having a strong plan in place is absolutely essential to ensuring the rest of the moving process is as streamlined as possible.

This includes research into many of the other factors such as choosing a moving company, appropriate office space and assessing potential issues ahead of time.

Vision And Motivation

Motivation is the key driving force for an office move, and every stakeholder needs to be involved and buy into the move otherwise the many steps towards it will be somewhat aimless.

Either you make it clear when, where, what, how and why you are moving, or the move might never take place.

Finding Suitable Office Space

Leaving your old office is impossible with a new location to move towards. Look at which type of office is most suitable for your business, look at locations, budgets, minimum obligations, break clauses, facilities and infrastructure.

Seeking Legal Advice

Both moving into a new office and leaving your current one will require robust legal advice to ensure you meet your obligations and do not lose any money in wasted rental time or legal disputes.

Ensuring Infrastructure Is In Place

If your new facility does not have all of the equipment it needs for the company to function, you will lose entire days of productivity. Ensure that your IT and networking infrastructure is in place so that employees can move to their new desks with the capacity to work.
